WHMIS - An Introduction

All employers in Canada are required by law to provide WHMIS training to workers who work with, or in proximity to, controlled products. Workers may be required to work with hazardous materials that are new to the workplace or that have been previously installed - requiring repair, maintenance, or removal.

Working with hazardous materials requires effective handling procedures, personal protective equipment, and most importantly, training.

By taking this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the theory and legislation with regards to WHMIS
  • Identify the six classes and eight symbols of controlled products
  • Determine how hazardous substances can enter the body
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of the Employer, the Supplier, and the Worker
  • Distinguish between supplier and workplace labels
  • Understand the various sections of a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
  • Become familiar with control measures, including at the source, along the path, and at the worker

The IMS Interactive Online REFRESHER course will review the concepts of WHMIS. Similar to IMS Interactive WHMIS: An Introduction, the refresher course offers condensed WHMIS information for the purposes of an annual review.
